The truth about urinary incontinence

The truth about urinary incontinence

Today we are going to talk about the truth about urinary incontinence and an approach to managing urinary incontinence.

At Careway Wellness Center, a frequently asked question by customers is…”Is there a cure for urinary incontinence?”  We give the same answer to all who ask; and that is…“today there are surgical procedures that can possibly cure incontinence”. We follow up that answer by stating…“talk with your doctor or urologist about your condition…asks him or her if it can be cured or treated.” Today there is absolutely no need to live quietly with incontinence. The sooner you talk with your doctor about what may be the cause of your urinary problems, the faster you will become knowledgeable about how to manage your particular condition. If, indeed, it is a condition that can be managed without medical treatment, it benefits you to seek advice from those who are well informed about the management of urinary incontinence. At Careway Wellness Center, there is a group of incontinence specialists who have been professionally trained to answer your questions about incontinence management and recommend the product(s) that best fit your personal condition. Call today and talk with one of our specialist and start your journey toward the the successful management of urinary incontinence.

As promised in my previous blogs, it is time to discuss various products on the market and the role they play in the successful management of urinary incontinence. But first, let me tell you a little bit about the progress that has been made in the field of incontinence. Most manufacturers of incontinence products offer an entire line of products to manage incontinence. It is amazing when you think of the advances these companies have made over the past ten years. They have literally invested hundreds of millions of dollars in research and development, and as a result of these investments, today’s incontinence products have been dramatically improved.  The two most obvious improvements have been: (1) the use of inert substances capable of greatly increasing the volume of liquid that can be readily absorbed by liners, pads, briefs and underwear products, and, (2) the discovery and incorporation of agents that are capable of eliminating odors derived from urine. Aesthetically, today’s products are more like regular underwear rather than diapers.  The days of the diaper configuration are gone, and to take its place are products that “look-and-feel-like-regular underwear”; products that provide maximum protection against leakage; and products that ensure odor elimination.

Today, we will take a quick look at four categories of incontinence products. When you learn and understand the characteristics of each category, your ability to make a decision for the product(s) that will best fit your particular needs will be much easier. Also, learning about the four main categories will be of substantial help when you are reading the labels on the products or when you are speaking to a sales person who is explaining the various features of incontinence products.

The four categories of incontinence products are:

  • Liners (for light leakage)
  • Pads (for moderate leakage)
  • Underwear (for all absorbing levels; made of cloth-like material)
  • Briefs (for all absorbing levels; comfortable fit and easy fastening system)

By clicking on any of the packages below, you will be able to see and shop any of the products represented within that category.

In future blogs, I will be referring to actual brand named items that fall into these four categories of incontinence products. Please bear with me…this is a subject that does not benefit anyone if she/he attempts to rush through the learning process; and for that reason, I much prefer to walk through the process rather than rush through the process and confuse my audience. Everyone will benefit by means of a disciplined progression of learning opposed to a rushed and slipshod approach to learning.

In my next blog, I will be covering some of the statistics about incontinence and one of the most common incontinence conditions…stress incontinence.
